Residents of Cashiers are both year-round and seasonal.  Those who live in this upscale community spend their time enjoying numerous outdoor amenities like National Forests, trails and waterfalls, as well as live entertainment and events at the Cashiers Village Green and perusing the many locally owned boutique shops in town.  Cashiers is a small town, with a tight-nit community.  Their focus is on their local heritage, community events with local artists and musicians, and maintaining the sought-after resort-style living that is unique to this area.

Dining

Cashiers dining includes various options from fast food like Subway and Wendy’s to elite fine dining at The Orchard Restaurant just off of Highway 107S and Winslow’s Hideway next to the Village Green.  If you are more in the mood for a relaxed family meal, there are so many choices! Slab Town Pizza is the place to head for hand-tossed pizza or fabulous salads.  Situated on the edge of town, just off of Highway 107N.  You should also check out Whiteside Brewery just up the road for locally brewed beer, great burgers and live music on Friday nights, or the sister restaurant to The Ugly Dog Pub in Highlands located on Frank Allen Road, “The Ugly Puppy” as it is locally known, for live music and a great pub atmosphere.  Both of these family friendly restaurants offer outside dining as well.  For your sweet tooth, Sugar Cloud Baking Company has you covered with heavenly cupcakes, cookies, donuts and more.

Shopping

For those of you that love to shop, Cashiers is home to many wonderful and eclectic choices.  Located along both Highways 107 and 64 circling out from what is widely referred to as “The Crossroads” you will find everything from boutique clothing and apparel shops to antiques, mountain décor, and even boutique shops for your pet! For fine apparel visit Narcissus, Robin’s Nest, TJ Bailey’s, Vivace and Sashay Around, all off of Highway 107. Cashiers even takes consignment to the next level at Victoria’s Closet and Vic’s for Men and S’More Kids Klothes, offering designer brands at discount prices.  Treat your kiddos to the many delights at The Corner Toy Store and then head over to the Village Green playground for a picnic.  If you love antiques, then you’ve come to the right place!  Macon and Jackson Counties have countless antique stores, and Cashiers boast Dovetail Antiques, Toby West Antiques, & Vivienne Metzger Antiques.  For the outdoors people in your family, you have to check out Highland Hiker right on the Crossroads (or their sister location in downtown Highlands), or head over to Brookings for all your fly-fishing needs.  For the furbabies of the family, treat them to Woof Gang Bakery near Brookings, Paws on the Mountain next to Ingle’s Grocery and The Village Hound on Burns St.

Things to Do

Cashiers is conveniently located to Nantahala National Forest, Panthertown Valley Backcountry Area, and Gorges State Park where you will find trails of all skill levels for both walking and horseback riding.  You can also make quick day trips to nearby Sylva or Franklin for more shopping, dining, and family-friendly activities like The Fun Factory for go-carts, putt-putt, games and bumper cars, catch a movie, or go bowling.

And last, but definitely not least, you will have to visit the Village Green of Cashiers next to The Crossroads where (depending on the day of the week) you can find live music, festivals, or arts and craft shows.  A great place to enjoy a summer Friday evening, join locals for Groovin’ on the Green, a free concert series, most Fridays from May to September.  Enjoy live music from talented local musicians.  Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and loaded picnic basket!  You can often find tasty options at the food trucks available on-site as well.
