About the Country Club of Sapphire Valley

The Country Club of Sapphire Valley is a private, member-owned club in the heart of Sapphire, just off US 64. It was founded in 1956 and owned by its members since 1983. It is one of the oldest golf clubs on the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau. Behind its private security gate are several neighborhoods, each with its own character, all a short walk or drive from the clubhouse, the Sapphire Valley ski slope, and Fairfield Lake.

The setting is more level than most mountain clubs. The course and many homesites sit on gentle ground, with views of Chimney Top, Bald Rock, and Rock Mountain. Club membership is by invitation.

Golf

The club's 18-hole, par-72 course was designed by George W. Cobb, plays 6,859 yards from the back tees, and was renovated in 2007. It is a traditional, walkable mountain course surrounded by long views of the Blue Ridge, with a driving range, putting and chipping greens, and a practice bunker.

  • Golf Club Estates: about 106 single-family lots along Cherokee Trail beside the course, with views of Chimney Top, Bald Rock, and Rock Mountain from Golf View Road
  • Stonecreek Crossing: 19 homesites with modest-sized homes, developed in the late 1990s under architectural controls and named for the two creeks on the property
  • Stonecreek Estates: a newer two-phase neighborhood, with lots just inside the gate near the ski slope and homes and lots with long-range views, some overlooking the clubhouse and course
