Chinquapin is a private, gated community of about 2,000 acres near Glenville, set high on the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau at elevations reaching about 4,500 feet. It is about 10 minutes from the Cashiers crossroads and about 20 minutes from Highlands, yet it feels far removed, with long-range mountain views, quiet roads, and forest in every direction.
The community was planned around the land. More than 700 acres, about a third of the property, are protected in permanent conservation, and homesites were laid out in large lots to keep homes private and limit their impact on the landscape. Chinquapin also borders Panthertown Valley, the roughly 6,300-acre section of the Nantahala National Forest often called the "Yosemite of the East," with its granite domes and waterfalls.
Chinquapin is built for outdoor living. Residents enjoy miles of trails for hiking, biking, and UTVs, along with equestrian trails, and can fish and canoe in the community's lakes and streams. The Outpost Clubhouse is the social center, with a fitness facility, gathering spaces, and a seasonal Summer Concert Series. Other amenities include pickleball courts, a disc golf course, a driving range, firepits, and a community park and picnic area.
Chinquapin has a driving range but no full golf course. Golfers are a short drive from Trillium Links & Lake Club on Lake Glenville, Mountaintop Golf & Lake Club, and the private clubs of Cashiers, including Wade Hampton Golf Club and High Hampton. Each club has its own membership process.
Panthertown Valley's trails and waterfalls are right next door, and Lake Glenville, with its marinas, public beach, and summer fireworks, is close by. The Cashiers crossroads, with its restaurants, shops, and The Village Green, is about 10 minutes away, and Highlands is about 20 minutes.
Homes at Chinquapin are custom mountain residences, many in an upscale contemporary style, designed to take in long-range views and blend into the forest. Homesites typically range from about two to five acres. A homeowners association maintains the gate, roads, trails, and shared amenities.
